Exercise and cellulite
When my friend
turned 40, she was 30 pounds overweight. With a strict diet, she lost weight
but also lost energy and vitality. She was always tired and exhausted, so I
and other friends were worried about her health.
Two years
later, this same person put on 30 pounds again and decided to join a certain
fitness program. After 6 months of exercise and a little strong will at the
lunch table, my dear friend lost weight again. But this time she felt better
than ever, glowing with energy and great good health.
What made the
difference? The first time she lost weight, but the second time she lost fat.
The difference is very important and significant. According to research, much
of the weight loss through diet alone is active tissue such as muscle and
connective tissue, while a smaller portion is excess fat. Exercise has the
opposite effect. She increased her lean body mass and reduced her excess fat.
The same thing
goes with cellulite. Most people tend to think that cellulite is only present
in people who are obese. That is why cellulite is sometimes associated with fat
and obesity.
Even if
cellulite refers to wrinkled “fat cells” and “subcutaneous connective tissue”
beneath the skin layer, this should never be associated with people who are obese.
In fact, many people have cellulite but are not fat at all.
In reality, no
one knows the main reason why some people accumulate cellulite. However, there
are some factors that health professionals consider such as the structure of
fat cells or poison that has entered the body. Some experts say it can be
caused by some hormonal changes in the body. Science still has no proof that
any of those things cause cellulite.
However, the
only major reason that most cases of cellulite are connected with women is that the
connective tissues of women are stiffer and firmer than men. So whenever a
woman gets fat, the fat cells tend to swell and enlarge and creates a bulging skin
appearance, creating the appearance of "orange peel".
This is why
women are more prone to cellulite than men. That is why women need to be more
attentive to their bodies, as they are more likely to accumulate cellulite.
Fat and cellulite
With many cases
of obese people having cellulite in the body, most believed that their
cellulite was caused by excess fat.
Although not
all those who are obese develop cellulite, being overweight can stimulate
cellulite development. The reason is that too much fat under the skin pushes the
connective tissue, creating a strain on the skin. This is how cellulitis is
formed.
However, it
still depends on the cell structure. If the cellular structure of the
individual does not inhibit the tendency to inflate or expand even if fat
deposits accumulate, then there will be no cellulite.
So, the most important thing to keep in mind here is that these connective tissues are firm
and strong. You have to avoid an accumulation of excess fat in order to avoid cellulite
development.
Start a routine exercise program
Turning food
into fat seems too easy for most of us. Fat loss is far more difficult, and to
achieve this we have only three alternatives:
1. reduce food intake and keep activity constant
2. increase activity and keep food intake constant
3. combine both approaches: diet and exercise.
Physical activity can help reverse the results of inactivity. An hour of intense
exercise can burn 300 to 600 calories. If you also reduce 300 to 500 calories
from your daily menu, you can lose pounds at a rate of one to two pounds per
week.
Without
exercise, you would need to eat 500 to 1,000 fewer calories a day to lose the
same amount of pounds per week. Exercise is not for everyone who is fat. A
person with severe obesity should only exercise under medical supervision to
prevent strain on the cardiovascular system and connective tissue. And no one
should drastically limit food intake without consulting a doctor.
Remember what
happened to my friend? She thought that when she started dieting, she would
eventually lose all the excess fat she had accumulated. The problem is, she
lost those connective tissues, not the excess fat.
For people
prone to cellulite, this will be a bigger problem. By losing connective tissue
instead of fat by a strict diet, the skin may only be prone to bigger problems,
but the fat cells are still there. It just means that the problem is not
resolved at all.
So if you want
to lose that cellulite, it would be best to lose fat first. The idea here is to
burn those fats by increasing your metabolism by 7.5% to 28% more than your
normal speed.
It is for this reason that exercise is an important factor in cellulite loss. So, for a
cellulite-free body always deals with an exercise routine.
